Well, I Did It...

I took the leap, I made the jump.

No, I'm not moving to Acapulco. Yet. But, I am officially a Blogger. That's right, folks. That is Blogger with a capital B. As in http://mountaineersmusings.blogspot.com/

While I appreciate New Orleans wanting to get back to normal, I have to question blowing the $2.7 million necessary for the clean-up and extra policing to have a parade they feel they must have in order to do so. Maybe use some of that money to buy the citizens of your fine city some lovely gift cards to Home Depot. I am no stranger to the idea of spending money to lift your spirits. But when it comes to my personal budget, I realize that I must take care of basic needs before indulging in a little retail therapy. Just common sense. Or maybe it's the TheraFlu talking.

And, while I am making a million enemies, can I just add that in this country, the government is not responsible for every aspect of its citizens' lives. If you want that, maybe you would be interested in moving to a country with a socialist government.

Last night I was entertained by figure skating...the men's short program. Now, I know I am going to ruffle a few feathers when I tell you that, in general, I believe men should stick to hockey and speed skating when wearing blades. That, however, is not the point of this entry. But, go ahead and comment away if I upset you. Whatever.

Much ado has been made about the new scoring system in figure skating. Overall, I think it is a nice change from the old system, but I don't really know much about it, so I am not the best judge. I do, however, want to submit a brand new system for review by the International Olympic Committee and the World Skating Federation.

The new system awards points for the following: tasteful costuming, exciting jumps, pretty music, in-style hair, and overall attractiveness.

Points shall be deducted for the following: men's costuming that includes ruffles or tulle or anything overtly 80s in style, hair-styles from any century previous to the 21st, leggings pulled over women's skates so as to look as though she is wearing none, and falling down a lot.

Sure, I'm shallow. I do not deny it. But, am I the most shallow? If so, please send me my gold medal. Fed Ex never brought me my Couch Potato one.

I proclaim myself the world's best. At what, you ask? Being an Olympics-watching-couch-potato-nothing-doing-slug. Yesterday, I watched TV all day long. And tonight, I have big plans for a repeat performance. And while working today during breaks and anytime I have been on the phone, I have been surfing the web for info on our fantastic Team USA. Ask me anything. So, I want my medal. I don't need a special ceremony with flowers and podiums. Just Fed Ex it. Along with one of those cool berets.

I LOVE the Winter Olympics. I am a complete junkie. Can't get enough. Funny, really, since we all know how much I despise cold weather.

There is just this feeling that comes with the Winter Olympics. Once every four years we become experts on snowboarding maneuvers on the halfpipe. We can spot just what went wrong to make an athlete lose valuable seconds during the giant slalom. We throw out terms like "throw triple salchow" in casual conversation. Discussions at work begin with, "Did you see the Flying Tomato land those back-to-back 1080s??" Never in my life would I have imagined myself saying that sentence...and people actually understanding me.

Ahhhh...the Olympics. (and yes, I know the past few days have kind of sucked for Team USA what with Kwan having to withdraw and Bode not living up to potential and Apolo not making it to the finals and that skiier wiping out and our luger crashing and...the vice president shooting someone...sure...but still. I love the Olympics. Don't take that away from me!)

Decision time. I am such a bad decision maker. So, friends, your help is requested. Here are the decisions I need to make:

To Xanga or not to Xanga...
I am not giving up blogging. I am just trying to decide if I should switch over or "upgrade," if you will, to a new service. And if so, which one? Blogger? Chattablogs? Atlblogs?
The reason? Twofold. First, I did a little browsing through the Rome metro the other day and realized that the majority of xanga-users around these parts are around the age of 15. I will be 29 in June. Second, I browsed a few of the atlblog sites this weekend and some are pretty cool looking. I have no idea if I could have anything half that nice, but it is something to which I could aspire. Any thoughts?

Where Should Mandy Live?
My wonderful roommate is taking the plunge and moving to MOROCCO!!! She is leaving in September to teach there for two years. So, I need to either continue working at my job and 1) get a new roommate and continue living in my frigid sub-zero temp house in Rome, 2) find a new place to live in Rome, 3) move to Atlanta to be closer to my job or 4) AND THIS COULD GET INTERESTING! do something completely different. Live somewhere else...do something else...who knows where this could lead.

So, I took an online quiz. NO, not blogthings or quizilla. A real, actual, find out the perfect city for you quiz. These are some places that fit my profile: Charleston, SC; Athens, GA; Savannah, GA; and Chattanooga, TN :) oh, and some places in TX (JoAnna, want some company?) So, what do you all think???
